Look For America

(Words & Music by Gerlach/Hartmann/Sever)

Driving down the straightest road I’ve ever known
Highway 61 for the first time
they said there was nothing much to see
that we’d be much better off flying

Ripped up our plane tickets
and walked out the door
to look for America

Down at the crossroads there’s even a sign
you can make a deal if you want to
broken down cars and tar paper shacks
this is the soul of the blues

I want to sing
we can howl at the moon
and look for America

Under the same stars tonight
passing the same bar lights
we can be happy out on the road
so far away but it feels just like home

Road side attractions are big as the sun
come see the prairie dog museum
it’s not the pyramids, it’s not the Eiffel Tower
and it’s certainly not the Coliseum

But it’s here, it’s right now
and it’s on the way
to look for America

Under the same stars tonight
passing the same bar lights
under the same stars tonight
we can be happy out on the road
so far away but it feels just like home
